This briefing paper aims to assist the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders in raising awareness about the risks faced by certain groups of defenders, such as sexual rights/reproductive rights (SR/RR) defenders. Even if there are various international treaties designed to protect all human rights defenders, the SR/RR are constantly exposed to discrimination, violence and other human rights abuses because of their work on sensitive and controversial human rights.
The report also provides recommendations for the Special Rapporteur to consider when implementing her mandate.
