Report of the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment: Mission to Jamaica, Manfred Nowak (2010)

The present report contains the findings and recommendations of the Special Rapporteur on his mission to Jamaica. He expresses concerns about one of the main problems faced by this country, i.e. the high level of violence caused by the drug and firearms trade, corruption, links of criminal gangs to political parties and other factors. He recommends that these causes should be addressed in order to bring the high crime rate down (including the extrajudicial executions committed by the police).

The report provides also a list of individual cases (some of which related to drug-issues) where allegations of degrading treatment have been made by detainees from different detention centers.
