Report of the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment: Mission to Nigeria, Manfred Nowak (2007)

This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Special Rapporteur on his mission to Nigeria. He mentions that torture and other forms of ill-treatment are still widely practiced.

He highlights that the UNODC is working with the Nigerian Prison Service in order to reform the detention centers. UNODC is also concluding a preventive HIV/AIDS and drug abuse awareness programme in some selected prisons in the country.

The report also presents individual cases (some of which related to drug issues) where allegations of ill–treatment were made by detainees from different detention centers.
