Report of the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment: Mission to China, Manfred Nowak (2006)

This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Special Rapporteur on his mission to China. He notes that although on the decline, torture still remains widespread in China as there are many factors which contribute to the continuing of this practice. He mentions that access to legal representatives for suspects must be arranged within 48 hours, and not within five days as it is the case with drug-dealers.

The report also presents individual cases (some of which related to drug issues) where allegations of ill–treatment were made by detainees from different detention centers.
