Sweden: Drug policy and economic, social, and cultural rights
Joint Submission: CESCR Periodic Review
May 2016
This joint submission was developed with the Swedish Drug Users Union on the occasion of the Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights periodic review of Sweden's implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
In this submission the HRDP and SDDU map out key developments since Sweden's last review with the Committee. The submission highlights welcome advances in several areas of drug reform in Sweden. However, the submission notes tensions between Sweden's current national drug strategy and the full and effective realisation of economic, social and cultural rights, with a particular emphasis on non-discrimination and the right to health.
