At least 40 individuals were captured, tortured and murdered by a paramilitary group with the support and acquiescence of members of the Colombian state. The paramilitary aimed to take control of the area as it was a strategic position in the cocaine trade. Amongst those murdered and displaced were children. The Court held Colombia responsible for violations of rights to life, liberty, humane treatment , rights of the protection of the child and effective judicial remedies.
