UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Concluding Observations on Jamaica (2001)

The Committee issued these concluding observations in 2001, after reviewing Jamaica’s second periodic report. In paragraph 935, the Committee notes concern with ‘serious problems’ affecting boys in Jamaica, including drug addiction, delinquency, and a high suicide rate. In paragraph 937, the Committee expresses deep concern with widespread violence and the presence in the country of ‘warlords’ that are involved in extortion, drugs, and prostitution.
