The article focuses on the so-called drug treatment centers in Puerto Rico and the unorthodox practices used by them. While these centers should be a refuge for those who use drugs, all they find here as a treatment for dependence is verbal/physical abuse, prayer, humiliation and forced work. Moreover, many of these places are run by former drug users and pastors who do not have any medical training and are unable to deal with the health complications of withdrawal.
