Report of the Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples: The situation of Maori people in New Zealand, James Anaya (2011)

Date: 31 May 2011

The report notes that Maori experience high levels of drug and alcohol abuse. It also mentions that Maori are incarcerated at a disproportionately high rate; however, it does not go into the reasons for this and whether sentences for drug offenses play a significant part. It also mentions new therapeutic programmes for re-entering prisoners, but doesn't say whether this includes drug treatment.
