Report by the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people: Situation of indigenous peoples in Australia, James Anaya (2010)

This report contains the observations of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples in Australia. In relation to drug issues, the Special Rapporteur expresses concerns regarding:

the forcible removal of the children from their families and communities by government agencies and churches, increasing the risk for these children to alcohol and drugs abuse.
the lack of indigenous physicians, nurses and other health-care workers such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation workers, sex offender counsellors and psychologists

The report also presents the observations of the Special Rapporteur on the NTER programme, which is aimed at addressing conditions faced by indigenous peoples in the Northern Territory.
