UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Concluding Observations on Cook Islands (2012)

Date: 22 February 2012

The Committee issued these concluding observations in 2012 after its consideration of the periodic report of the Cook Islands. It notes that despite the Narcotics and Misuse of Drugs Act there is a lack of legislation concerning drug trafficking and a high proportion of young people are using drugs such as marihuana. It recommends taking measures to curb drug trafficking and protect children from illicit drug use and implement rehabilitation, reintegration and recovery programmes. (paragraphs 51 &52)
