Somsanga's Secrets: Arbitrary Detention, Physical Abuse, and Suicide inside a Lao Drug Detention Center, Human Rights Watch (11 October 2011)

This report by Human Rights Watch examines the treatment and conditions in the Somsanga Treatment and Rehabilitation Center located outside of the Laos capital city, Vientiane. Despite the lack of human rights protections, abhorrent living conditions and widespread international criticism of the facility, it has received a decade of international support, including from the UNODC and the United States. The report calls on the international community to review their aid to the facility and projects carried out at the facility and cease such support altogether (see page 63-64 for full recommendations).
