The author of the Communication is Ali Maleki, an Iranian citizen who was convicted for drug trafficking. Applying to the Committee, Mr. Maleki claimed a violation of his right to fair trial as he was tried and sentenced in absentia.
The Committee found Italy had violated Article 14 para. 1 of the Covenant.
