Report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences: Mission to Russian Federation, Yakin Ertürk (2006)

Date: 26 January 2006

This country report examined violence against women in relation to the insecurity in the North Caucasus and domestic violence throughout the Country.

In examining domestic violence throughout the Federation, the Special Rapporteur observed growing rates of alcohol and drug abuse only contribute to a growing risk for violence against women while the loss of status of women are more directly indicative of deep-rooted patriarchal values. (para 23)
